Local Migrant Integration Support Center

History

CLAIM Serpa/Pias was created by Rota do Guadiana (ADI) on February 6, 2018, with the signing of a four-party protocol between ACM, CMSerpa, and JFPias, becoming part of the network of 92 CLAIMs in the country. Until 2020, it operated as a pilot project funded by the MAI Citizen Measure, under the Serpa Local Security Contract. Between 2020 and 2023, it operated with financial support from FAMI (Portugal 2020). In 2024, it operated with financial support from CMSerpa. Currently, it operates with financial support from AIMA and CMSerpa. Between 2018 and 2024, it served 1,547 migrants, providing 4,232 services.

Mission

Welcome, information and support for migrants who live, work or study in the municipality of Serpa, in their migratory regularization process or nationality process, as well as social, professional and economic inclusion.

Values

  • Equal treatment of migrants, regardless of age, gender, language, territory of origin, religion, political or ideological beliefs, education, economic situation, social status or sexual orientation.

  • Welcome and support all immigrants with respect, empathy, and sensitivity, recognizing their specific condition and needs.

  • Provide appropriate and efficient responses to questions raised by migrants in the shortest possible time.

  • Work in a network with all public and private entities, national and local, to ensure integrated and comprehensive support and monitoring.

  • Promote interculturality and dialogue between cultures, fostering social inclusion, while respecting cultural diversity.

Services provided

  • Assistance with documentation for applications submitted to AIMA for:

o   Getting of a Residence Permit

o Renewal of a Residence Permit

o Application for Portuguese Nationality

o Family Reunification

o Registration of Irregular Minors

  • Additional Support:

o   Support in obtaining a NISS / NIF / NU

o Forwarding to the IMT

o Forwarding to employment services, professional training, education, healthcare, and social services

o Support for voluntary return, associations and and entrepreneurship

  • Promotion of cultural events

Services are provided free of charge, with guaranteed protection of personal data.

CLAIM Serpa/Pias currently operates with financial support from AIMA - Agência para Integração, Migrações e Asilo and the Serpa City Council.

Financial support

CLAIM Serpa/Pias works in conjunction with all public and private entities at local and national levels, ensuring integrated and comprehensive monitoring.
